The Fire Department of the city of Nagoya has ordered an Airbus H160 helicopter, strengthening its response capabilities for firefighting, search and rescue, and natural disaster operations.

According to Airbus, the new model will be equipped to tackle the challenges of both urban and forest emergencies, with the option to install a firefighting bucket or a belly-mounted water tank, optimizing support for ground crews.

“We are honored that our long-standing customer has selected the H160 for its vital missions. This revolutionary helicopter redefines safety, performance, and design—perfectly suited for the Bureau’s demanding work,” said Jean-Luc Alfonsi, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan.

The H160 will replace one of the current AS365N3 aircraft that has been in operation since 1973, when the Nagoya Fire Department introduced its first helicopter, an Alouette III. This transition marks a new era in the city’s aerial support operations.

With cutting-edge technology and high standards of safety and comfort, the H160 stands out as one of the most advanced aircraft on the market. In addition to emergency applications, it is also used globally for medical services, offshore transport, public security, and executive missions.

Japan currently has around 380 Airbus helicopters in operation, and the H160 fleet continues to grow. Three units are already in service in the country, including two for law enforcement and one for news coverage. The new order reinforces Japanese operators’ confidence in the aircraft’s versatility.
